Flowers on Mother’s Day

SBC_sz-661613_0

With Mother’s Day right around the corner we will start to see lots of flower ads. I told my husband that this year I wanted the kind of flowers that would last forever! He looked at me quizzically and responded “you want fake flowers?” Kinda I said. I told him I would send him a link to the flowers I wanted.

Don’t get me wrong, I love real flowers, but I would much rather see my husband or my son spend money on something I can enjoy all year long. Real flowers will be gone after a week, but the flowers I can create with this Sizzix die cut will live on through my crafting.

Of course my family knows I am a crafter, but they have no idea what I have or what I want, so why not give them a little help this year! All Mother’s Day items are 15% off over the next two days so you better drop your hints fast!

Here are some of the items on my list:

Do you get craft supplies on Mother’s Day? Leave me a comment and let me know what you want this year.

National Scrapbook Day 2017

18199181_285501635243323_4108275243122976061_nNational Scrapbook Day is the first Saturday in May which happens to be this Saturday. It is a day where people all over the Country gather and celebrate with Scrapbooking parties to share their talents and techniques with other. It is also a time for SALES!

It was started back in 1994 by a Scrapbook company called Creative Memories and has been celebrated every year.  But how did scrapbooking originate? Back in the 15th century, people used an album called a commonplace book where they gathered sonnets, recipes and and correspondence. The friendship album came in the 16th century and photographs started to be added to these books after 1826.

Many bloggers and You Tubers get in on the action as well, including myself. I will be participating in a Video Hop creating a fun scrapbook page. So make sure you are subscribed to my channel. You will also see lots of activity on the social media platforms such as instagram, facebook and pinterest.

Scrapbook.com will be hosting 5 different challenges. Here are some of the themes. Be sure to click on the links to see all the details of the challenges and the prizes they will be offering.

Why join a Facebook Group?

Big-Beautiful-Coffee-Mockup-IG-640x640

Traditionally, a blog was a place to share your creation and crafty projects. Many crafters created blogs to not only showcase their projects, but also provide information on how those projects were created.  You could subscribe to their blog and when a new post was created, you would be notified or you would check your subscription feed.

While this is a great landing page, it is not as interactive as Facebook and you don’t even need to be at your computer anymore! You can easily tie your facebook page to your smart phone which most of us carry all the time!

While there are many crafting groups out there it is sometimes hard to know what groups to join. While members are called facebook “friends”, the people in these groups are still strangers, not “real friends” right?  Well that may be the case for most groups, but not for a group I have been fortunate enough to be a part of, Stamp Junkies! From the moment you join this group you are welcome with open arms. The Admins are friendly and keep the group drama free.

Most groups have rules, or guidelines that the admins wish you to follow. These guidelines help members to understand what types of posts are acceptable and help control the theme of the group. Groups like Stamp Junkies don’t allow selling or destashing on their page, but freely provide or allow members to post alternative pages that do.  They not only support and promote their own group, but their members as well. It is more than a group, it is a community!

Stamp Junkies  recently celebrated their two year birthday! They have become a community for beginner stampers as well as seasoned ones. A community where you can interact with shop owners such as Gina K from Gina K Designs or Effie C from The Ton.  It is a place to learn and share freely without fear of negativity! So if you are a member of this group, get involved, share your projects and make a friend! And if you are not a member, what are you waiting for?

Mixed Media – Friend or Foe?

Does Mixed Media intimidate you? I know it did me. I thought that it was only for canvases and bigger projects. But it’s not!  If you are familiar with my work, you can see lots of mixed media product on many of my greeting cards. I have also published some you tube videos on this topic as well.

17632439_1491110294256371_2563168853245422173_o

So what is Mixed Media really? Mixed media” tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual artmedia—for example, a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage could properly be called a “mixed media” work, but not a work of “multimedia art.”
If you are still intimidated by this medium, Pinterest has lots of ideas to lead you down this new path. You can go as slow or as fast as your comfort level allows.

Maybe you are already a Lover of Mixed Media? Either way, if you need to stock up or have just been thinking about trying a new medium, this may just be the time! All Faber-Castell product is on sale!

Faber Castell’s lines are perfect for mixed media artists, papercrafters, and scrapbookers. This line includes pencils, pens, gelatos and markers. You can also pick up some stencils, paste and Gesso. You can easily transition some of your current work by adding some different mediums.

Tim Holtz is another brand that offers some different mediums. I use many of these products in my day to day art work. While many are intimidated by distress crayons, I find them to have multi uses. You can easily color up your texture paste or gesso by scribbling a distress crayon onto your craft mat and mixing in your medium.  This is an easy inexpensive way to get a variety of color in your art work.

Collage mediums are also great to adhere ephemera or help you create a collage. I use this product with my fingers, but there are also Collage brushes to help spread this medium. Select Tim Holtz mediums are also on sale!

Here are some of my favorite items:

So leave me a comment and let me know if Mixed Media is a friend or foe and why. I would love to hear your thoughts.

To Pre order or Not to Pre order?

banner_gratitude

With the excitement of new product and wanting to be the first to get it, many people choose to pre order. What this means is they pay up front to be put on a list to get the product once the product is sent to the on line shop. While this can be great if there is enough product sent to support the pre orders, but not so great if they run out before they get to your “pre order.”

This became evident with much of the new product released at Creativation.  The new Tim Holtz Distress Oxides had such a high demand, many people were left “in holding” awaiting new shipments.  Many people became frustrated as the shops they pre ordered from ran out of the product while other shops now had it in stock.  I unfortunately was one of those people.  I ordered the full set in February and just recently got my notification of shipment. I considered canceling my order and purchasing from shops that had the product available now, but instead ended up just waiting it out. Part of me wanted to see how long it would really take…

Now with the recent news of the delayed release of the Tim Holtz Stamping platform, many are once again playing the waiting game. But this time it is a bit different.  The delay is not due to demand, as all stores will be experiencing the delay. It has to do with the recent news of My Sweet Petunia’s awaited patent on the MISTI which was just issued.  Many manufacturers copied the design of the MISTI and gambled that the patent would not come through.  According to My Sweet Petunia, “two companies accepted the MISTI design as unique” and withdrew their product from the market.

What follows is the letter from Tonic regarding the referenced issue:

Dear Valued Customer,

Tonic is very excited to launch the new Tim Holtz Stamping platform, however we need to inform you of a delay in the launch of this product.  As you may be aware My Sweet Petunia (MSP) have been granted a patent on their Misti Stamping Platform.

While we do not consider our Tim Holtz Tonic Studios Stamp Platform to be an infringement of this patent and its claims, we do not want to expose our customers to any legal action from MSP in the event that they sell our product.  The ongoing protection and sustainability of the Tonic brand and our products are paramount to our ongoing relationship with all our retail partners.

Our attorneys are working on this case and we expect to have a resolution within the next 4 weeks.  We apologize for this inconvenience but we fully expect to be able to ship to you within the next 6 – 8 weeks.

We will be giving updates as we work with all parties to resolve this matter and hope to give you more information soon.

We appreciate your understand and patience in this matter.

Kind regards,

Tonic Studios USA

The invention of the MISTI is an amazing story! If you have not heard it, you can hear it over on the So Suzy Podcast entitled: MIHM-Iliana Myska from My Sweet Petunia . I personally love the MISTI and have the regular size as well as the mini.  I plan on ordering the newest product, Creative Corners from My Sweet Petunia as they are currently on sale, along with everything in her shop today through the Sunday April 16th, 2017. Scrapbook.com also has the original, mini and Memory MISTI on sale.

I had no intentions of purchasing the Tim Holtz Stamping platform as the MISTI’s worked great, but was sent one from the manufacturer because I do use many of the products in the Tim Holtz line.  I did a video to introduce the Stamping platform which you can see here. The version I have is a 1708e. Tonic has indicated that they plan to release 1707e in place of the original model. They have not said what the differences in the two models will be. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
